Despite being a children’s book writer, Kimberley Anne Scott’s claim to fame, or infamy, comes from a tumultuous relationship with the world-famous rapper Eminem. Obviously, one of the biggest musicians of the 21st century is in no need of an introduction, but if you don’t follow him closely, you might not know whom he shared an important part of his life with.

It would be an understatement to say that she has been to hell and back in her life, a major part of which revolved around the rapper, but she has her own tale to tell. So today, we’re taking a look at the story of Marshall Mathers’ ex-wife.

    Before the Beginning

Kimberley Anne Scott was born alongside her twin sister Dawn on 9th January, 1975, to Kathleen Sluck in Michigan. Her story seems like a real-life version of Hansel and Gretel, but without any of the magic, or a happy ending.

The twins were abused by their step-father from an early age, leading them to have mental and emotional issues. They ran away from home, at the age of 13 in order to escape the torture inflicted upon them, which became the beginning of how Em and Kim met. The twins lived in a Youth-Home.

    Match Made in Heaven?

Kim happened upon Eminem at a party back in the late 80s, when she was only 13. They met each other’s eyes, when a 15-year-old Marshall Mathers was singing a song, standing on the top of a table, half-naked. This kick-started their friendship.

Soon, they fell head over heels for each other and she started living together at Eminem’s mother’s house, along with her sister. It is reported that the mother frowned upon the relationship.

    Life with Eminem

Their relationship was tempestuous at best, which means it is hard to imagine the worst. One of Eminem’s close friends from the time, the rapper Proof, reported that he once saw all of Eminem’s things strewn on the porch, thrown out by Kim because of a fight. He said that Eminem called the relationship quits, after the incident; but he was back with her again, the next day, which the rapper described as “true love.”

Even when Kim was pregnant, their relationship was already going from bad to worse. In the Christmas of 1995, the couple were blessed with Hailie Jade Mathers, who became the glue that kept the couple together despite everything. Kim moved out to live in a single-bedroom apartment a year later, taking her daughter alongside.

     Till Death Do Us Part

Kim and Eminem revived their romance in 1999 and got married, but it didn’t last long. It might have been because Kim was both Eminem’s inspiration, and constipation. The song entitled “Kim” might have been a factor, because the lyrics deal with a very sensitive subject matter, the subject of Eminem’s relationship, where he indicates.

And if that wasn’t enough, he played the song in his “Up in Smoke” tour, where Kim was in the audience. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back. The couple separated in 2001, sharing joint custody of their daughter. Later, Kim sued him for defamation.

They remarried, in 2006. During the separation, Kim had married another man and birthed another daughter named Whitney. And a few months later, they divorced again, to the surprise of everyone.

    Life and Net Worth

She suffered from numerous mental illnesses because of all the abuse she’s had to take in her life. In 2001, she tried to kill herself after the concert incident by slashing her wrists. She made another attempt on her own life back in 2015, when she drove into a pole intoxicated, having taken alcohol and pills. Her twin sister died, back in 2016 of a heroin overdose, which indeed tore her world apart. There have been a few incidents with the law too, one of them getting her a 3-month sentence.

Eminem paid more than half a million dollars on Child and Spousal support every year after the 2006 divorce, until Hailie came of age. Numerous meticulous calculations, research, and analysis of sources show that the rapper’s ex-lover is worth about $1 million. Unsurprisingly, Eminem is worth $230 million.
